The Smell of Democrats’ Massive Climate “Bull”

March 31, 2009

Henry Waxman released a massive stink bomb today – the Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009.  It should be called the “Death Knell for America’s Economy Bill – 2009″ .

I don’t have a problem with attempting to keep our planet clean, but Carbon Dioxide is plant food.  We exhale it.  It is produced when we are producing energy for our productive endeavors.  Perhaps this is why Democrats do not understand why it is necessary.

Read the exec summary here.

Arbitrary limits on output set by people with little or no understanding of business, manufacturing or economics will cause extreme price shocks at a time when our nation is reeling from an economic recession.  Obama must be pleased.  When these  folks are done there will be very little of Wall Street or Main Street businesses left to help you.  The only game in town will be Government Inc., run by his holiness, the Hope Obama.

Since we all exhale CO2, perhaps there will be a tax based on your individual breathing.  Mr. Waxman’s nostrils might be taxed at a higher rate since his output migt violate arbitrary limits.

Ford – No Thanks, Uncle Sam

March 31, 2009

Ford’s Executive VP, Mark Fields was interviewed on CNN and was asked to comment on his two US-based rivals and the big story involving their bailouts by the US Government.  He just kept talking about their plans, their new products and how they are not in need of government assistance.

Essentially he had nothing to say about the GM CEO getting the axe, nor Chrysler’s scant 30 day window.  He also was fairly tight lipped about the fact that his rivals are getting cash loans while Ford is going it alone.

Good for you, Ford.  ford_motor_company_logosvg

They are clearly the only company that understands what you trade when you take money from the bottomless-pit aka the US Government.

Like it or not, the CEO of GM and Chrysler is none other than Barack H Obama – politician and community organizer extraordinaire.  He knows nothing about cars, the manufacturing of cars or the selling of cars, but he is the de-facto president of both companies.  I’ll bet you didn’t know that you were voting for “hope”, “change” and “automotive executive – with no experience”.

Oh, I know he keeps saying that he has no intention of having the US Government in the auto business, but he did just ask the head of one of the companies to resign.  He says that they will remain autonomous and get to make their own decisions – so long as those decisions are approved by the Obama Administration.  If that is not running the auto manufacturers, I don’t know what is.

The loans have UNION strings attached.  It would not be surprising to see the UAW gain ownership and contriol of GM over this fiasco.

Can Ford sue the government?

If Ford gets screwed because Obama helps GM and/or Chrysler tear up labor and dealer contracts with little or no costs can they sue?  The other makers are getting preferential treatment.  Is there an “equal protection” that applies to business concerns?

I don’t know – but if I was Ford, I would start working on tweaking the “plan” to further reduce labor and dealer costs and numbers NOW.

Chrysler is DOA

Obama’s naming Fiat as the only viable suitor to save Chrysler probably ruined that deal.  Fiat can now hold out for whatever they want.  The 30 day clock is ticking and I doubt this is going to help sell cars in the interim.  More savvy negotiating from President “Wiley Coyote – Genius”.

Obama Presidential Approval Index at +8

March 31, 2009

By sacking the head of GM and hitting the TV circuit, the President has bumped up his numbers a bit to their highest in about two weeks.

As of yesterday, he sits at +8.  The 100 days mark is approaching and this administration doesn’t want any problems at that point.

Emergency or Not, Bailout was and IS Unconstitutional

March 31, 2009

As the world leaders meet at the G20 summit to discuss what (governments can) to do about the economic crisis, George Will picked up on what we covered last fall.  Namely, the fact that the George W Bush emergency $700 Billion bailout (Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008) was and still is – unconstitutional.

Will cites the good libertarian folks at FreedomWorks who have noted that the Congress of the USA improperly delegated its responsibility to the executive branch in violation of the Vesting Clause in Article I of the Constitution when they wrote EESA of 2008.  The article says that ALL legislative powers should rest with Congress.  Therefore, NONE may rest with the Executive Branch.  The EESA effectively let George W Bush and later, Barack H Obama write whatever they want into the blanks.

They meant well and wanted to give the President the ability to act quickly to avert a crisis.  In their haste, they probably created a Constitutional crisis.

Take a look at the Op-Ed.  It is well written and includes a very good hypothetical example of a piece of legislation entitled, “The Goodness and Niceness Act”.

NOW Uncle Sam will Back Warranties

March 30, 2009

Now that GM and Chrysler are on life support the Obama administration says it will backstop new car warranties.  Why didn’t they do this months ago?logo vehicles-tile

Consumers have stayed away from showrooms due to the financial meltdown and the fact that that they had no idea whether or not the manufacturer would be in business this time next year.  Defunct automakers have had a detrimental effect on the resale value of the average automobile.

Regulations and union contracts have killed the US auto companies (along with bad decision-making that led them into the morass). Now that they are left for dead, only now the last resort is the government.  This is just what Obama and his group want – total dependency on Uncle Sam.  Once we have no other options, we will all have to turn to the government – for our cars, our jobs, our food, housing and health care.

They already control too much.  Just wait – change is a commin’!
