McCain makes “Gaffes”, Obama suffers “Attacks”

CNN and the Associated Press are not biased towards liberal causes.  However, when it comes to those who write the headlines it is hard to miss how McCain not knowing exactly how many homes he has is classified as a “gaffe” but any discussion by political opponents of a misstep by Obama is considered an attack.

When you click on the link to the story you get a new headline – “Obama Pounces as McCain stumbles on the number of his homes”.  Obama pounces, McCain and Republicans “attack”.   Hmm.

To be fair, the content of the story does say that Obama is attacking McCain.  But how many people actually read the stories?

While we are on the subject of the political campaign, someone please tell me why it is that CNN is focusing on the poll of polls instead of their own polling numbers.  If McCain is up in one of the leading polls, why can’t they just say so?

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/election_20082/2008_presidential_election/daily_presidential_tracking_poll

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Friday shows Obama attracting 45% of the vote John McCain earns 43%. When “leaners” are included, it’s Obama 47% and McCain 46%

If you take time to look at  the daily results (including “leaners”) you will note that a few times McCain actually was ahead of Obama by a point.

Do you remember hearing the McCain and Obama were essentially tied or even that McCain had a slight lead?

Neither do I.

Zogby’s poll has McCain up 46-41% as of yesterday, (http://voanews.com/english/2008-08-20-voa57.cfm) but the race is essentially too close to call.

The UPI says (and others do too) that the reason is McCain is attacking Obama.  Does Obama ever make a mistake?  Is there anything he does or has ever done that is worthy of criticism?  According to the top media outlets the answer seems to be a resounding, “No.”

McCain is making his fair share of mistakes and perhaps fudging on the number of homes you have is a weak answer, but a gaffe.  Did he drop is pants or group an intern?  Did he spend years working side by side with a known domestic terrorist?

I haven’t seen a serious discussion by any of the media’s top “talking heads” about the Obama gaffe factor in his fall from grace with voters.  When I do I will let you know.  Have a good weekend.
